How to Manage Employees in Different Ways

Managing employees can be a difficult task. Each employee has different things that motivate them. Different management techniques will need to be used on each of them. The management style you choose can be one of many. The buddy, Mr Cool and the micromanager are some different styles. Although each type of manager has benefits and negatives, the most well rounded type of manager is the coach.

The coach is unlike many of the others since they won't use extreme management techniques. For example Mr Cool always does what is best for them only and the micromanager picks apart every simple task. Neither of these methods are used by the coach. The coach doesn't do things that are best for them personally, they always have the best interest of the team in mind. Some day to day tasks are also left alone by the coach since they feel they can go unmanaged. They give their employees some freedom and responsibility to make decisions.

One of the best traits of the coach is their ability to interact with each employee for growth. They don’t reprimand employees if a small task is failed. The coach will let this slip up go, but will use it as a coaching opportunity with the employee. This benefits the whole team in many ways. One way is the confidence employees will have. They will know that if there is something they fail to do, the coach will help them through it by teaching them why they failed. A team environment is thus created because all employees will feel important to the success of the team and the goal they are working towards.

Although it may seem like a perfect style, it is definitely not. This style goes too easy on some employees who need a harsher style. Coaching doesn't work with every type of employee. Coaches may also fail to give credit where credit is due since they are so focused on what the team is accomplishing. Creating a style that is a blend of the others is usually the best thing to do since there isn't one single style that is going to work well for everyone all the time.
